The best first shoes for baby will have a soft suede sole to allow your babies little toes to grip the floor to support with balance and developing the correct muscles for walking. Hard soled baby shoes, often sold by high street retailers, impede this development. It is also advisable to buy shoes with soft, light and flexible materials like leather to ensure the baby is able to move easily aiding walking and physical development. Our shoes have also been designed with extra width near the toes to allow baby to spread their toes and aid balance.
Baby shoes sizes vary with measurements differing significantly between all major retailers so it is imperative to measure your babies feet from heel to toe to ensure you are buying the correct size and check each retailers size guides before purchasing. It's completely up to you! Babies don't need shoes until they are walking, cruising or crawling outdoors. However our customers like to protect there babies feet from the cold, especially outdoors. It also helps to ensure your babies feet are warm and protected from standing on any hard services or discarded toys.
Pre-walkers are shoes especially designed to delicately support babies feet before they are walking. Hard soled shoes that resemble older children's or adult shoes should not be warn at this stage as they need the ability to grip the floor through a thin soft sole and the flexibility to move their toes freely.
We add small rubber grips to the bottom all our shoes 12months + as this gives them the additional support and protection needed for walking babies to wear our shoes outside in all weathers. The placement of the rubber grips ensure any benefits of soft soles is still active and the shoe is still flexible unlike a full hard sole.
Although our current range only extends to 18 months, children are able to wear soft soled shoes throughout childhood. Toddlers will especially benefit from the continued support of soft soles, flexible leather and extra widths to support further movement and development. We are hoping to extend our range soon and are working with podiatrists to create an expert recommended firmer sole and design.
Rubber grips are just the small areas of rubber added to all our soft soles for all shoes 12 months +. This is to support walkers with exploring the outdoors giving an extra layer of protection. The rubber grips have been especially added to areas that will not impede the babies grip or foot movement. These shoes also feature all the benefits and expert recommended features across all our shoes.
